About this service

A clear idea of what you're stepping into.

Somatic psychotherapy is a body-centred approach to therapy that integrates talk therapy with techniques that directly involve the body. It works from the idea that stress, trauma and emotions are not only held in thoughts but also in physical sensations, posture, breath and movement.

What sets this apart is the underlying concept in everything we do — it's not about you. We often blame others for something that is totally misunderstood, or assume the other person was aware of our circumstances when they were not (expecting others to read our minds). This work gently untangles that pattern with curiosity and compassion.

What sets this apart

Why people choose this work.

Body and mind together

Stress, trauma and emotions live in thoughts and in the body alike. We work with sensation, posture, breath and movement alongside conversation, so change lands in your whole system.

It's not about you

A core idea woven through the work. We notice how often we blame others for misunderstandings, or assume they knew our circumstances when they did not — and learn to meet that pattern differently.

Completing stuck stress responses

Using present-moment bodily sensations (interoception), we help your system complete stuck stress responses, reduce physiological arousal and build body-based regulation and resilience.

Who it's for

This may suit you if you're…

  • Living with trauma, anxiety or chronic stress
  • Experiencing dissociation or shutdown
  • Managing chronic pain with a mind-body lens
  • Noticing stress in your body — tension, gut, breath, sleep
  • Wanting to build emotional regulation and resilience

Example of support

What this can look like in practice.

The situation

A client came in feeling 'fine on paper' but constantly exhausted, snapping at her family and unable to switch off at night.

What shifted

Over four months we worked with the freeze response in her shoulders and jaw, mapped the people-pleasing patterns she'd built since childhood, and rebuilt her wind-down routine. She now sleeps through and notices the early signal before the old pattern locks in.

  1. 1

    First conversation

A relaxed session to meet, share what's on your mind, and decide together if it feels like a good fit.

  2. 2

    Settle the system

We begin with small grounding practices and interoception — noticing breath, sensation and posture — so your body knows it's safe to begin.

  3. 3

    Complete the stuck response

Together we follow what's alive in the body — a sensation, a held breath, a tight jaw — and help stuck stress responses move through and resolve.

  4. 4

    Build regulation and resilience

Over time you grow body-based skills for awareness, regulation and recovery — so the work keeps living in you between sessions.
